Walking Safari in Kenya

There are several opportunities to go on walking safaris in Kenya and in this itinerary we have chosen to show you a 7 days hiking/walking private safari. You will be taken by plane and car to the Laikipia Plateau and here the adventure starts. Walking together with a professional guide through the almost surreal landscape of the Laikipia Plateau. During the week’s adventure you sleep under the stars (in a comfortable tent) and your luggage is carried by camels leaded by Samburus. Afterwards relaxing at a tropical beach, that’s the way it should be and that is holiday.

1: Arrival at Nairobi Airport

2: Full day rafting adventure, with transfer to Tana River and back, with briefing and equipment check, with lunch and drinks.

3: Transfer to airport
Flight to Kimanjo Airstrip in Laikipia

4: Start with your private walking safari and walk downstream to a camp called Namborr, a place where you can swim and enjoy the water. This area is popular with elephants and you might see other game such as Eland and Grevy's Zebra.

5: Walk downstream into the drier hilly country where the river cuts through a gorge and rushes through great rocks
(Lorginyang - Crocodile Jaws).
Camp will be at Leshashi, under shady Tortillis trees by some rapids.

6: You walk on, further downstream, towards Namasaa a famous crossing place on the river.
The landscape is spectacular and you will camp under some enormous
Neutonia Trees, watching out for hippos in the deep pools. You are staying in this camp for two nights and at night you will be likely to be seranaded by Pearl-Spotted Owlets

7: Wake up early and walk to the pinnacle, Ngai Suisui, that has a dramatic 360 degree view of the area and is also the nesting site for a pair of Verreaux Eagles.
You have breakfast up on the rock and meanderback down to the river where you can relax during the heat of the day.

8: Cross the river and climb out of the river valley. Then you climb the high ridges along the edge of the Leroghi Plateau where you can enjoy incredible views of the Karisia Hills and Lewarges, the highest peak in the Mathews Range.
You have sundowners on a jutting rock outcrop, with stunning views over northern Kenya.

9: The final day, time to say goodbye to the very loyal camels, and walk up to Ol Malo.
You arrive at Ol Malo by lunchtime and enjoy an afternoon relaxing by the pool followed by an evening walk, horseback ride or a game drive.
